Get paid to watch TV!

Unread post by FOIA »

Back in January I wanted to stream the WA-MI national championship in hopes that the WA Huskies would win. They lost but I inadvertently made money out of the deal.

The game wasn't streaming free anywhere so I signed up for a free 7-day trial of $80/month Direct TV streaming. I watched the game and a few movies and then canceled. I signed up using the Opera browser which has something called Opera Cashback that usually gives you a percent or two rebate on Internet purchases from some sites.

I just checked my Cashback balance and it shows a $36.50 kickback for the Direct TV that didn't cost me anything.

I get paid to answer questions. Several years ago I signed up with three online opinion and survey sites. The survivor of the three is YouGov which has paid me several hundred Dollars over the approximate six years since I signed.

I know nothing about some of the subjects and when YouGov asks me such a category of question, I choose (when available) the paraphrased answer "I don't know and I don't care" but they still try. I guess peoples' interests can alter, over time.

You prompt me to look around for what else is available!...

Charlie,

Ditto!
When we bought this place, cable service was not available, and we sorta inherited a DirecTV hookup. I kept that alive until I realized that the only thing I ever watched on regular TV was NFL games, and that was too much money for too little entertainment.

Cable service is available here now, but I have not been tempted to subscribe.
I get all my news from the web, so I can usually avoid the nonsense which TV would force on me.

Regards,
Baron

There's plenty of free streaming available these days:

* Freevee (was IMDb TV - owned by Amazon)

* Roku (not limited to their devices - there's an app for many platforms)

* Pluto (lots of live TV with a nice schedule guide)

* Tubi (on demand TV and movies)

* Crackle

* The free version of Sling

* peacock (owned by NBC so there's lots of NBC content)

There's also channels that you usually have to pay for but if you know the IP address of their stream you can get them on the sly.
