UAW 4 day work week

Unread post by def_con5 »

Does anyone know what the UAW wants?
1) Work 4 8 hour shifts. Work 32 hours get paid for 32 hours.
2)Work 4 8 hour shifts. Work 32 hours get paid for 40 hours
3)Work 4 10 hour shifts. Work 40 hours get paid for 40 hours.

Sanders has endorsed it, so I am assuming it's 2.

That choice guarantees that American companies lose in competition with imports. More American jobs overseas... [edited to remove the political statement G-g] ...

This decreases economic efficiency.

American vehicles are often not as high quality as their foreign counterparts but are often as expensive or more expensive.

That is because the most expensive production input is ALWAYS labor.

Increase labor costs through unionization and criminalization of labor immigration and you end up with very expensive labor producing less product.

Less product means higher costs.

If Sanders endorses it, it must be option #4...

4) Work from home, get paid for 40 hours.

The question no one is asking (nor answering) is...

...how will those automakers obtain 40 hours of production output from from a worker "working" 32* hours per week?

Is the production line per hour throughput rates going to be increased...?

*actual number less when all "breaks" (ie smoke, potty, stretch, tie shoes, slow walk back to work cell, etc) are accounted for...

Yeah. From what I've seen reported it's work 32, get paid for 40. Now what I don't know is if someone works more than 32 hours will the first 8 hours be counted as OT or not.
