Clarification regarding “dumbass”
Based on a previous alert, the term “dumbass” was deemed an acceptable epithet, was it not? Could one of the admins please clarify?
ETA: In fact, if I recall correctly, it was adjudicated to be ok when it was used at me, by the very poster that probably alerted on it.

I think like many things, it depends on the juror.TheMaskedDUer wrote: ↑July 22nd, 2021, 6:33 am Based on a previous alert, the term “dumbass” was deemed an acceptable epithet, was it not? Could one of the admins please clarify?

I will vote to sanction use of the term (and others that many here may find "acceptable") every single time.

Re: Clarification regarding “dumbass”
I have seen that about you and respect you for it regardless of whether you consistently sanction it or consistently do not. Unfortunately, for many here, it comes down to whether one likes the person using the term or not. As I noted, I was called that several times by Libloather and when it came to a vote, it was judged not against the rules. Thus, this panel, given the predominance of conservatives here, becomes just another censorship tool that conservatives constantly fail against.fools_gold wrote: ↑July 22nd, 2021, 7:22 am I think like many things, it depends on the juror.

I think we need to be careful about banning the use of so many descriptive words.
Maybe not in all, but in many cases they accurately describe a person, and it's not unfair to call one what one is.

I dont think "dumbass" has ever gotten anyone a time out.
However, if the admins believe it should be forbidden or if the bees vote that it is worthy of a time out, it should be enforced consistently.

I know what I am.
And I'm often miscalled something by those with a propensity to be jerks.
Whoop-whoop-de-do. I know what I am.

You also think you know what other people are, as evidenced by your little post there.
You don't. I see right through you though, plain as day.

Re: Clarification regarding “dumbass”
The Killer Bee panel is pretty fair/balanced. Last I checked, the vote was 3-3 and no decision as of yet. You can argue until the cows come home about your mistreatment, but the panel has the final vote.TheMaskedDUer wrote: ↑July 22nd, 2021, 7:29 am I have seen that about you and respect you for it regardless of whether you consistently sanction it or consistently do not. But you are using the term "dumbass" just to show that you can or else you'll start a big ole whiny thread about it.
If someone called someone else a "douchebag" and it passed an alert, you'd be calling everyone here douchebags.
The goal really isn't to set a list of banned words. Our goal is to keep the board from oozing into the fiery pits of hell with consistent name calling and thread derailment. Oftentimes mods (gamle-ged, boadicea or sometimes even me) will pm a person and ask that a term be removed. Usually they are quite gracious in doing so. You, however, like to play the game so I guess you play your cards, you take your chances!

Re: Clarification regarding “dumbass”
I would counter that a poster of even moderate intellect should be able to use a higher level of vocabulary to describe something accurately and adequately without resorting to the crude, crass, or vulgar expressions of the lower intellectual stratum. No one in my circle of associates in real life would ever use such language, and we "are all adults".
I dislike such language in real life, and I don't accept it any more here. All be aware, as long as I am a voting mod, I will vote to sanction such descriptors.

Not acceptable to me. OTOH, I have no issue with DUmpster or DUmmy.
