Yes, molten iron. Currently undergoing a phase shift.

Yes. I read the other day that scientists are saying it is shifting in the direction that it was going? Something in response to the changing magnetic poles?

Well, there is no way to for sure. I think both things are related. The iron core spins slightly faster than the Earth dragging it along. However there is a loose molten liquid like core surrounding that that is in a constant dynamic fluid state. However not being a solid it has eddies and currents. Over time these compound and the whole mass flips, reversing the poles. See here:

As we can see it happens fairly regularly over geological time, however never witnessed or recorded by humans. What's concerning in our modern age is that all of our electronics are based on electromagnetism. that is based on the current polarity of the earth. Now when it starts to flip (maybe happening now?) we will have more and more failures, since our electronics is kinda pretty much based on it.

How will Google Map know which way is North if there is 5 different north poles? How will satellites determine where they are? All your electronics work until you get to home where nothing works because you entered a anomalous zone, and that zone drifts.

Also, they (the scientists that study dirt) suspect that a weakened magnetic field would result in higher UV rays getting to the surface creating higher incidences of skin cancer.

Now as far as anything reversing? I don't think so. We are on a sliding surface of a ball. The center is moving faster than us. From our perspective it moves forward. So, if it slows it will match our speed. If it slows even more we will speed ahead of it's spin. So from our perspective again it will look like it has reversed as it now trails behind us. So, no it hasn't reversed direction.

Example: I run at 30 miles an hour. You run at 29 miles an hour. I will slowly pull away from you. However, when I am ten feet ahead I slow to 28 miles per hour until you are ahead by ten feet. To you it looks like I went in reverse, but I am still traveling in the same direction as you but at a slower speed.

Media is dumb.
