Yay the Fed feels they're beginning to get inflation under control.
I had my doubts about all these rate increases to stem inflation but lo and behold, it just might be working. The fed is now pumping the brakes on the economy rather than slamming the brakes.
Just a 0.25% hike in interest rates.

Inflation will drop when you cut reporting by a year as well.

What Jay Powell said today is the Fed will play it by ear. If additional inflationary pressures crop up, they'll go back to larger basis point increases in interest rates. Today's raise was 25 basis points.Vercingetorix wrote: ↑February 1st, 2023, 7:36 pm What will they do when gas prices kick up this summer?

Sure....they have been playing it by ear all along.
Prices are up and demand is down. So if they got inflation under control how do you recoup aggregate demand?
Fed would say reduce interest rates which can bring inflation back up.

And yet, at least for the day of the Fed's announcement: "Dollar plunges as Fed says disinflation now in play"Vercingetorix wrote: ↑February 1st, 2023, 9:49 pm Sure....they have been playing it by ear all along.

"The dollar tumbled on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve said it had turned a corner in the fight against inflation, giving markets a confidence boost that the end of its rate-hike campaign is near.
Investors took a dovish cue from Fed Chair Jerome Powell's remarks on Wednesday that "the disinflationary process has started" in the world's largest economy, although he also signalled that interest rates would continue rising and that cuts were not in the offing."

Silly, the reason inflation is slowing (like losing by 4 each inning instead of 5) is the price of gas came down due to Puddin stealing our emergency oil reserves. Guess what? the price of oil is going back up.Nero wrote: ↑February 1st, 2023, 4:29 pm I had my doubts about all these rate increases to stem inflation but lo and behold, it just might be working. Unfortunately, there is no 10-run rule with inflation like there is in baseball. The game doesn't automatically end.

If Puddin' hadn't stolen our emergency petroleum reserves the Republicans would have had that red wave election and gained 50 or more seats and taken control of the Senate, setting up a Trump return in 2024. Puddin' had to do something to hold back the tide.oflguy wrote: ↑February 2nd, 2023, 8:13 am Silly, the reason inflation is slowing (like losing by 4 each inning instead of 5) is the price of gas came down due to Puddin stealing our emergency oil reserves. The Federal Reserve is being cautiously optimistic that they've managed to begin the process of disinflation.

I think the crux of everything is the economy has been mismanged over time. To say the Fed is eliminating inflation is like saying they also wipe their ass after a shit. Cleaning up your own mess isnt to be commended.
