China Is Flooding the World With Cars

Unread post by oflguy »

Even as China’s other exports falter, its carmakers are seeing big increases in overseas sales, mainly for gasoline-powered models. At a time when many of China’s exports are faltering and its consumers are spending less at home, the country is flooding the world with cars.

Overseas demand for inexpensive vehicles made in China, mostly gasoline-powered models that Chinese consumers now shun in favor of electric cars, is so great that the biggest obstacle to selling more abroad is a lack of specialized ships to carry them.

Chinese automakers have leaped to dominance in Russia since war began in Ukraine, transporting cars by train. The companies have also captured large shares of markets in Southeast Asia, Australia, South America and Mexico. With lingering Trump-era tariffs holding back sales to the United States, China’s automakers are preparing a big push into Europe — once they have enough ships. Shipyards along the Yangtze River are building a fleet of car-carrying ships that act as giant floating parking lots, capable of carrying 5,000 or more cars at a time.

There may come a day when the only gas-powered car available will be one made in China.

No fool, forcing people to buy something against their will for political reasons is not capitalism.

This capitalist has endorsed Ron DeSantis.
"Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai rolls off 2 millionth vehicle"
Tesla announced that the Gigafactory Shanghai rolled off its two millionth vehicle on September 6, marking a significant achievement for the company.
The Gigafactory Shanghai, which began construction in December 2018 and commenced production in December 2019, reached its first production milestone of one million electric vehicles in August 2022. Now, it has accomplished yet another remarkable feat by doubling that number.

According to preliminary data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on September 4, Tesla sold 84,159 made-in-China cars in August, marking a year-on-year increase of 9.35% and a substantial month-on-month growth of 30.92%.
While Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, previously mentioned a global production decline for the company in the third quarter due to factory upgrades, it seems that the momentum at the Shanghai factory has once again picked up, with the month of August seeing the third-highest shipment volume from the factory this year.

Tesla electric car-producing Gigafactories
Fremont, California — Model S and X.
Berlin Germany - Model Y.
Shanghai, China - Model 3 and Y.
Austin Texas — Model Y and will be the future manufacturing home of the Tesla Cybertruck.
Elon Musk has said he hopes to build 10 to 12 more Tesla Gigafactories to reach his goal of making 20 million cars a year by 2030.

There are also gigafactories in Sparks, Nevada and Buffalo, New York that don't currently build cars.

Just about every car "made in America" is part Chinese, part Mexican, part Canadian, part Japanese and part American.

The point is that just because a businessman or woman chooses to do business with China doesn't make that person a communist or a communist sympathizer.
Both Donald and Ivanka Trump have done business in China, Ivanka owned factories there. Its hard to be a conservative Republican and a communist at the same time.
That's the relevance.
